40 Days for Life

You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
      how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
   Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
      all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
   The days of my life all prepared
      before I’d even lived one day. (Psalm 139:13-16, The Message)

Father, we come before you today with heavy hearts and contrition, asking forgiveness for the sins of a nation against the most defenseless ones in all the world, the unborn. Forgive us as a nation for the callous policies which place the convenience of an uncluttered lifestyle above a human’s right to life. We ask that you’d the change hearts of those who clamor for  a woman’s “right to choose” above the right of the unborn to live at all. Change our hearts, O Lord both individually and as a nation.

Help us be like Abraham

 “Abraham's obedience followed the call of God as thunder follows the flash.”
  — Pastor Dan Schiel
 Sermon - The Stranger

Lord, help us to be like Abraham … to follow you as believers hungering for your Word. We repent of succumbing to the temptations of plenty and clinging to the things of this world so tightly that we have lost our thirst for you. Forgive us for exchanging our dependence on You for provision, for the false promise of security through our own knowledge, efforts and accumulation of wealth.
