Free to Live a Free Life

We are presenting here the audio of the Sunday morning sermon from Christ Church in Conroe, Texas, July 5, 2009. With an imposing string of quotes spanning from the late sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries you’ll hear the words of pre-revolution founders, American leaders and institutional policies, and Pastor Schiel makes the case for regarding the foundations of the United States as clearly Christian.

40 Days for Life

You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
      how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
   Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
      all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
   The days of my life all prepared
      before I’d even lived one day. (Psalm 139:13-16, The Message)

Father, we come before you today with heavy hearts and contrition, asking forgiveness for the sins of a nation against the most defenseless ones in all the world, the unborn. Forgive us as a nation for the callous policies which place the convenience of an uncluttered lifestyle above a human’s right to life. We ask that you’d the change hearts of those who clamor for  a woman’s “right to choose” above the right of the unborn to live at all. Change our hearts, O Lord both individually and as a nation.

Is God out to lunch?

What’s going on here? Is God out to lunch? Nobody’s tending the store. The wicked get by with everything; they have it made, piling up riches. I’ve been stupid to play by the rules; what has it gotten me? A long run of bad luck, that’s what — a slap in the face every time I walk out the door.
— Psalm 73:11-14, The Message

We’ve been through the mill over the past year or two, because of collapsing financial empires, home foreclosures, scandals from Washington to Wall Street, and in the Governors’ Mansions in more than one state. Fraud, deceit and downright lies have been perpetrated on the American citizenry from government officials at all levels, captains of industry, and criminals of all descriptions. Foreign dictators and terrorists spew venom we can’t imagine and it makes the world a more dangerous place than it was just yesterday.
